Treating lower leg injuries
Soft tissue
For minor sprains and strains the first aid treatment is summarised as:

If not immobilised sharp bones will cause further damage
If the casualty has ‘rolled’ their ankle and has great difficulty in walking then treat as broken.
The boot or shoe should be removed and the ankle kept still and supported.
Possible Fracture
Immobilise the injured part of the extremity in the position of function, or as close to the position of function as possible.
For long bone fractures immobilise the joints above and below the injury. For injuries in and around joints immobilise the
bones above and below the injured joint.
